Smart Label: simplifying operators’ lives to bring more sustainability to everyone

This has been one of the recurring themes this year, expressed through compostable food trays, eco-friendly materials for furnishings, water and plastic-free sous-vide cooking, and much more.

Host 2023, held in Rho from Friday 13 to Tuesday 17 October, will celebrate the commitment of companies towards more responsible, digital and ecofriendly innovation also in a dedicated space (Hall 6, Stand A44 B43 B49 B50) to the 26 winners – out of 157 nominations – of the Smart Label – Host Innovation Award which, thus, pushes beyond the traditional perimeter of an Award to be an integral part of an event that has always voted to anticipate innovation in the reference sectors.

“There is, among other things, the ability to meet complex needs and to hybridize types towards a contemporary hospitality and food service system, with multifunctional and demanding tools that can reduce the time and resources used without losing usability and quality,” commented the jury member Venanzio Arquilla, designer and Associate Professor at the Design Department of the Politecnico di Milano.

Emphasizing sustainability, another jury member, Vu Duy Phong, Contracting Design Lecturer in the same Department, added: “The theme of sustainability is transversal to the hospitality sectors. Everyone serves consumers, but the key transformation I’ve observed is that, if we value the environment we all live in, the future of the project will be more focused on real life.”

Companies at the Forefront

However, how have companies put these concepts into practice? “The integrated and compostable meal dish allows you to prepare, refrigerate and serve a complete meal while reducing time and waste,” explains Michelangelo Anderlini, President and Co-Founder of BioPap, who won the Green Smart Label with Genius Meal Tray. “At the end of the service goes directly to composting, with the surpluses of food and without further manipulation, to return to farming”.

Not only at the table: the search for sustainability goes all the way to the furniture. Sadun achieved the Innovation Smart Label thanks to Paper Stone: “For years we have focused on the search for sustainable materials for furniture and design. PaperStone is the ‘friend of the planet’ material because it is composed entirely of recycled post-consumption paper and FSC at the original, impregnated with a patented natural resin,” commented Sales Director, Marco Brunato.

And in many cases innovation takes the form of simplification, like Neovide of Argion who for this has earned the “classic” Smart Label: “We improve precision and simplify vacuum cooking by making it more sustainable, without water or plastic bags in the cooking process. By simplifying the processes, Neovide gives more power to the creativity of professional homemade chefs”, concludes Ben Young, Marketing at Argion.

At Host 2023, the award-winning products will be exhibited in the Smart Label space at Hall 6, Stand A44, B43, B49, B50.
