Hospitality in the name of sustainability

Care for the environment is transforming spaces and services and is at the centre of new machinery design.

Sustainability is transforming tomorrow’s hotels, which aim to be greener and more environmentally aware.

“Our product range is big on sustainability and on the use of eco-friendly materials. We try to explain to our clients that using low-quality products is a false economy, explains Cristiano Galli Zugaro, CEO of Italtrim, a company that operates in the area of niche products for luxury hotels.

“Every year we try launching new products where the accent is on eco-friendliness and sustainability: we started with stone paper that avoids the need to cut down trees, it is recyclable, it does not burn and if it gets wet it can simply be dried and used again, it is tear resistant, does not need to be laminated and can be printed on using water-based inks. This was followed by our wet amenities for a plastic-free bathroom without sulphates. The aluminium tubes containing these wet amenities are 100% recyclable. Now we are working to promote water in aluminium cans in hotels so that PET bottles and plastic generally can be removed. We provide bamboo-fibre slippers that are 100% compostable. We have vegan hotel cosmetics ranges that are ‘animal cruelty free’, and our ranges for children are produced using natural ingredients. We produce everything in Italy and can testify to the quality of the ingredients we use. Our organic cotton comes from controlled, certified sources and any paper we use is from forests where the trees cut down are replace. Our dry amenities ranges are made from wood, bamboo, cotton, paper and compostable materials.”

“Sustainability is not just something to consider in the future,” agrees Nefeli Bouti, marketing manager of Frank Buna. “Businesses in the hospitality industry need to take action now to make themselves more sustainable. Energy prices and the cost of living are higher than ever, and are already impacting businesses.”

At HostMilano, the German company will be presenting an automated milk foamer, whose patented microfoam technology offers precise temperature control and fully customizable settings, delivering the perfect texture for any drink, hot or cold, with all types of milk.

“It is a machine that has been made with sustainability in mind. It consumes less energy thanks to the fact that it does not use steam, and it has an automated sleep mode when not in use. Furthermore, thanks to its full customization capabilities, it dispenses the exact amounts of liquid needed, resulting in significantly less waste.”
